Trip to Lake Mead

This was I believe our only trip to Lake Mead this summer, and it was an eventful one.  Kim and the kids came down and we decided to go over on the AZ side to Temple Bar.  We got out there about 11:30.  The weather was calm and beautifully hot for a lake day.  As we drove around the lake with the occasional stop here and there we did lots of swimming.  We pumped up one of the toys and the girls and boys took their turns.  They rode on the knee board.  The girls did it for the first time.  We ate lunch and enjoyed the fun.  (We have decided that the second you hit the lake its always food time till you leave.)
Around 4 it started getting a little windy and some clouds were making there way our direction so we started making our way back. We decided to make one last stop up in a little cove where we stayed for at least half hour swimming, relaxing, and eating. Finally the storm was upon us. It had started to sprinkle and the wind had picked up so we headed toward Temple Bar. As we headed that direction the storm got worse and worse. The sprinkle went to a full torrential down poor to hale. The winds had picked up as well causing the waves to pick up and also picking the water up off the lake and throwing it at us. Soon you couldn't see which direction you were heading and the wave came up and over the front of the boat once then twice. It only took those 2 times for Scott to turn the direction of the boat so that we were no longer hitting the waves dead on. (Later he said that our boat cant sink.  A little comfort a little to late.  Guess we'll know if there's a next time.)
After what felt like forever it died down enough for us to see and be able to turn the boat the right way. The kids were all crying I think the adults would have too if we weren't trying to hold it together for them. We quickly made it back to the docs loaded the boat up and headed out. In the process finding out that we were lucky with the Tahoe. Several vehicles had windows busted from the hale. We believe to date its the worst storm we have ever been in. Glad we made it home alive. Here are a few pictures of the crazy day.

Martin and Brecken having their turn.

Dana and Kenna chillin.

Girls taking their turn.

Everyone but Monica taking the pic.

Dana knee boarding for her first time.  She was in full panic mode the whole time.

Kenna doing it her first time as well.  They both did great.

Martin, Monica, and Brecken

The boys doing their thing.

The storm has started to hit.

Kim got the brunt of hit.  We were still laughing here but that only lasted for about another 2 minutes.

The kids taking what shelter they could.

After...its still sprinkling a little but we are alive.
